2021: FCRF Reports Positive Trajectory for 89% of all Fancy Color Categories
New York, February 1, 2022: The Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) today announced the Fancy Color Diamond Price Index results for Q4 and a summary of 2021.
Q4 Results:
The average price of all Fancy Color Diamonds rose 0.5% during Q4 2021. Price changes among all 128 categories tracked by the FCRF varied between -1.1% to +2.9%.
Pink
Pink prices increased by an average of 0.6%, a similar rate to the previous quarter. Prices in all size categories increased or stayed the same in Q4, with the 3 carat and 1.5 carat categories leading at 1.2% and 1%, respectively.
Two and 5 carat diamonds in the Fancy category led the price increase, with 1.8% and 1.6%, respectively. Two carat Fancy Intense pinks inched up by 0.3% and Fancy Intense 5 carats did not change in price, while, interestingly, Fancy Vivid 2 carat prices increased by 1.3% and Fancy Vivid 5 carats decreased by 1.1%.
Blue
Blue prices rose by an average of 0.5%, similar to the previous quarter. Prices in all size categories increased or held their price in Q4, with the 1.5 carat category showing the highest increase (1.4%).
All Fancy category prices rose, ranging from 0.7% in the 5 carat category to 2.9% in the 8 carat category. Fancy Intense in the smaller weight categories exhibited a stronger increase, with 1.7% for 1 carat and 2.4% for 1.5 carats, while 2 carat Fancy Intense showed the most significant price decrease (-0.6%).
Yellow
Yellow prices rose by 0.4% in Q4 on average, a lower rate compared to Q3. The 2 carat category led the price increase with 1.1%, while 1 and 3 carats were the only categories that showed price decreases, with -0.1% and -0.3%, respectively.
Notably, the 5 carat Fancy category showed a strong rise of 2.7%, while Fancy Intense 5 carats inched up by 0.3%, and Fancy Vivid 5 carat prices went down by 0.1%. Similarly, Fancy Yellow 3 carats increased in price by 1.5%, while Fancy Intense 3 carats decreased by 0.9% and Fancy Vivid 3 carats went down by 0.5%.
2021 results:
The year 2021 showed a rise in the price of 89% of all fancy color categories. Price changes among all 128 categories tracked by the FCRF Fancy Color Diamonds Price Index ranged from -1.3% to +7.9%, with the average change in 2021 being a price increase of 1.7%.
The average price of all Fancy Color Diamonds increased 1.7% in 2021, a market recovery from the decrease seen in 2020.
Throughout 2021, Blues (2.2%) and Pinks (2%) led the price increase, while Yellow prices rose 0.9%. Average prices for Fancy Vivids rose 1.6%. Fancy Intense diamonds in all colors and sizes increased by an average of 1.8%, with the only exception being Fancy Intense Yellow 1.5 and 5 carats, which fell 1.3% and 1%, respectively.

Q3 2021: Continuous price rises in all Fancy Color categories
New York, November 4, 2021: The Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) announced today the results of the Q3 2021 Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI). Prices of Fancy Color Diamonds continued to rise across the board, with a 0.7% increase this quarter, and a 1.1% increase throughout the year. The general increase was led by Blues (0.8%), with Pinks and Yellows following closely behind (0.7% and 0.6% respectively).
Pink/Purplish Pink
Pink diamond prices continued to rise in Q3, led by the Fancy and Fancy Vivid grade categories. Fancy Pink 1 carats rose by 1.8% and Fancy Vivid Pink 5 carats rose by 1.7%. The lowest performance was seen in the 3 carat category in the Fancy grade, which decreased by -0.3%.
Blue
Blue diamond prices continued to rise in Q3, with the Fancy Vivid Blue category leading the charts: 8 carats rose 2%; 5 carats rose by 1.9%; and 1 carat rose by 1.5%. The Fancy Intense grade category displayed the lowest rise of 0.4%, with 2 carats declining by -1.1%.
Yellow
Similar to Pinks and Blues, Yellow diamond prices sustained an increase compared to the previous quarter. This is mostly due to appreciation in the 5 to 10 carat weight categories. Among the smaller diamonds, 1 carat Fancy Vivid Yellow stood out, with an increase of 1.9%.

FCRF Advisory Board member Eden Rachminov explained, “This increase was actually expected, as Fancy Color prices were too low for too long. In my opinion, most colors will keep increasing in price over the next two years, especially the yellow category in all grades.”

Q2 2021: A Positive Trajectory for all Fancy Color Diamonds
New York, July 29 2021: The Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) announced today the results of the Q2 2021Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI). Prices of Fancy Color Diamonds across the board increased by 0.2% during Q2 2021. Blues (0.4%) and Pinks (0.3%) led the increase, while Yellows rose by 0.1%, as opposed to the slight decrease in the previous quarter. The price rise follows a 0.3% overall price increase in Q1 2021.
Pink
Pink diamond prices rose by 0.3% in Q2, mainly due to an increase of 0.6% in the Fancy grade category, with 2 and 3 carat Fancy Pinks rising by 1.6% and 2%, respectively. The 1 carat Fancy Pinks were the highest climbers in the Pink category (2.2%), while 10 carat Fancy Pinks showed a downturn in price, decreasing by -1.1%.
Blue
Blue diamond prices presented an overall increase of 0.4%, following an appreciation of 0.8% in the Fancy grade category. The 1.5 and 2 carat Blues, in all saturations, showed the highest increase (1.3%), with Fancy Blue 1.5 carats rising by 1.7% and Fancy Intense Blue 1.5 carats rising by 2.2%. Meanwhile, 3 and 5 carats in all saturation levels slightly declined by -0.2% and -0.1%, respectively.
Yellow
Yellow diamonds remained stable in Q2, with an increase of 0.1%. Most segments performed better in Q2 compared to Q1. The most prominent increase was in 5 carat Fancy Vivid Yellow (+1.3%). Fancy Vivid Yellow in the 10 carat category were a close second highest climber by 0.9%, while 10 carat Fancy Yellow presented a drop of -2.1%.

Q1 2021: Fancy color prices increase as the US rebounds from Covid
New York, May 4th, 2021: The Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) announced today the Fancy Color Diamond INDEX results for Q1 2021. Prices of Fancy Color diamonds increased by 0.3% during Q1 2021 with Blues (0.5%) and Pinks (0.4%) marking the direction.
Following a challenging year, the first quarter of 2021 proved that Fancy Color Diamond prices are resilient and on the rise across the board as things in the USA slowly go back to normal. In Q1 2021, Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid segments both presented an increase of 0.4% in comparison to a slight decrease of 0.2% in the Fancy segment. The noticeable decrease this past quarter was in the Fancy 2 carats category (-1.1%). Conversely, the Fancy Intense 2 carats category presented the highest climb of 2.6% in Q1 2021, followed by the Fancy Intense 3 carats segment increasing by 1.9%
Pink
Prices of Pink diamonds presented an increase of 0.4% across the board, led by an increase of 1.5% and 1.4% in 2 and 3 carats in all saturations. Fancy Intense Pink diamonds of 2 carats rose by 3.4% and Fancy Intense Pink of 3 carats increased by 2.3%. Prices of Fancy Pink of 2 carats decreased by -1.1%.
Blue
Blue diamonds presented a price rise of 0.5%, with 1.5 carat Fancy Intense Blue leading with an increase of 2.6%. 1.5 carats in all blue saturations rose by 1.5%, with the Fancy Vivid Blue 1.5 carats rising by 1.9% as well. Prices of Fancy Blue 3 carats decreased by -1.4%
Yellow
Fancy Vivid Yellow 3 carats and Fancy Vivid Yellow 10 carats showed a price increase of 1.1% and 1.2% respectively. In Q1 2021, the Yellow diamonds demonstrated a minor price decrease of -0.2% after a stable year, with the Fancy Yellow 5 carats segment dropping by -2.4%.
